Amani Jean Paul

Known for his skills on the dance floor, Jean Paul Amani (far right) has been a proud Educate! student since 2006.

While fleeing to Uganda from war in the Congo, Jean Paul Amani found a young, abandoned girl named Alice Munguiko.  He picked her up, carried her across the border, and she became his adopted daughter.  In 2006, Alice also became an Educate! student.

Along with several other refugees in Kyangwali (pictured above), Jean Paul Amani actively volunteers for Think Humanity, a US based organization that aims to better the lives of refugees in Africa (www.thinkhumanity.org).  He also helped start a community organization called COBURWAS with his fellow Educate! students.  Together, Think Humanity and COBURWAS have transformed the lives of over 1,000 refugees by building an orphanage, counseling members of the community, and raising money to send over 30 students to school.

The three qualities that characterize Jean Paul are his leadership, ability to act like a mediator, and kind heart which is apparent from the moment you meet him.

Jean Paul is generously sponsored by Beth and Jim Heckel of Loveland, Colorado.
