Jimmy Pierre Kanizius

Jimmy Pierre Kanizius (far left) became an Educate! student in 2007.  Like many of the Educate! studnets, Jimmy is a refugee from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Compelled by all that he has experienced, Jimmy began writing a first hand account of his life and the war in the DRC.  Jimmy is currently working to publish his book, a remarkable accomplisment for a 19 year old!

Jimmy is also an administrator for Think Humanity, a US based organization that works in Kyangwali alongside COBURWAS, a community based organization Jimmy and several other Educate! students have started.  Jimmy’s leadership has enabled Think Humanity and COBURWAS to distribute over 5,000 mosquito nets, start a livestock project, and even build an orphanage.

A testament to Jimmy’s remarkable leadership and character, he was recently accepted to African Leadership Academy (ALA), a worldclass institution in South Africa that selects only 100 young leaders from across the world.  Jimmy will attend ALA for two years and benefit from their top notch faculty and innovative curriculum focused on leadership, entrepreneurship, and African studies.  Good work Jimmy!!

Jimmy is generously sponsored by Beth and Jim Heckel of Loveland, Colorado.
