Ruth Tumushabe

Ruth Tumushabe is a refugee from the Democratic Republic of Congo living in Kyangwali Refugee Settlement, Uganda. She currently attends St. Lawrence Schools and Colleges in Uganda. A native of Nyamirima Village, Uganda, Ruth hopes to graduate in 2010, and would very much like to continue her education at the university level. While at school, she is involved with Scripture Union and in her free time enjoys singing, reading novels, and spending time with friends.
She also cares deeply for her community and hopes to put her education to use helping them in whatever ways she can. She is currently a member of CORBURWAS, a community based organization started by Educate! students in Kyangwali Refugee Settlement that aims to unite the people of Kyangwali from Congo, Burundi, Uganda, Rwanda, and Sudan. Amongst other things, she helps raise funds for future club projects through farming.
Ruth’s education has allowed her to further her goals of helping her community. “Before Educate! I had no hope of continuing with studies, I am now happy knowing that life for me and my community members will be improved once I get my qualifications.”
