Livelihood Bootcamps for Young Women Unable to Access Secondary School
We are developing an evidence-based model that aims to equip youth with the skills to start a business, seek employment, and increase earnings within local labor markets — while building the agency and confidence to drive towards goals and be resilient within an evolving economy.
Impact is delivered through a multi-week skill-building experience, where young people engage in an empowering and practical skills curriculum, coupled with real, hands-on experience. Young people actively apply knowledge through the launch of a business within local labor markets — immediately translating new knowledge and skills into action and earnings.
During the bootcamp and beyond, youth receive personalized mentorship and coaching from a locally embedded trainer and mentor, ensuring they receive the guidance and support needed to succeed.
Eastern and Southern Africa is home to the highest concentration of young people living in extreme poverty, and it is the only region where the number of youth who are out of school is growing globally.
Young people across the continent face significant barriers to accessing education and building the relevant knowledge and skills needed to pursue employment. Insufficient formal job opportunities mean that over 90% of youth seek to build livelihoods within Africa’s informal economy.
Expanding Economic Opportunity and Agency for Rural Young Women and Girls
Educate! is delivering livelihood bootcamps for young women and girls across rural communities in Kenya and Uganda, preparing young people unable to access formal education for the world of work.
