CAMIS Dashboards: Turning Data Into Action

Disclaimer: Please watch the Rwanda product introduction video, if not yet, before proceeding.

Introduction to CAMIS

CAMIS is one of the most important system-building projects within our work in Rwanda.

District Education Officers (DEOs) in Rwanda can access a digital dashboard displaying the performance, trends, and gaps of all schools in their district. This platform, CAMIS, stands for Comprehensive Assessment Management Information System and serves as the national student data assessment system.

Educate! co-developed CAMIS with the Rwandan government to:

  • Capture classroom-level assessment data

  • Track performance trends across schools

  • Provide district-level oversight

  • Enable national-level monitoring

While CAMIS collects and organizes data, this represents only a portion of its overall objective.

The Shift: From Data Storage to Data Utilization

CAMIS dashboards support data-driven decision-making through interactive tools that allow education leaders to link specific data views with critical decisions, such as resource allocation, intervention targeting, and training prioritization. These features address actionable questions including: "Which schools exceeded their attendance targets this term?" and "Which student groups (including vulnerable populations) demonstrate the fastest improvement, and which require urgent support?" Instead of relying on static reports, CAMIS dashboards deliver real-time data to guide timely actions.

Why Focus on District Leaders

District Education Officers (DEOs) in Rwanda serve as the critical link between national policy directives and school-level implementation.

Effective interpretation and use of data by district leaders can accelerate system-wide improvements. Without timely intervention, schools may fail to receive necessary support, underperforming students may remain unidentified, and district-wide progress could stagnate.

This project extends beyond dashboards; it focuses on harnessing data to enhance learning outcomes for millions of students.
