A 2-Minute Guide to Spotting Scams

In this quick video, Edwin walks you through how to spot and handle fraudulent or impersonation emails.

1. Stop, Look, Think
If an email feels unusual or urgent, pause before acting. Don’t click or reply.

2. Check the real sender
Hover over the sender’s name in Gmail to see the actual email address.
If it doesn’t end in @experienceeducate.org, it’s a scam.

3. Look for red flags
Be cautious of:

  • Requests for payments, gift cards, or passwords

  • Messages demanding secrecy or immediate action

  • Leadership will never ask for these over email.

4. Verify through another channel
If you’re unsure, don’t reply. Call, WhatsApp, or talk to the person directly to confirm the request.

5. Report, don’t delete
In Gmail, click the three dots (⋮) → Report phishing, then forward the email to itservicedesk@experienceeducate.atlassian.net.
