Sharing Learnings in Global “Breakthroughs in Education” Event

Educate!’s team leader in Northern Uganda, Lawrence Komakech, recently joined a global online learning event called “Breakthroughs in Education: Innovations in Equity, Access, and Quality” to discuss Educate!’s experience innovating our model for the constraints of a post-conflict region, hosted by the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI). Lawrence shared Educate!’s key lessons learned from scaling in Northern Uganda, alongside presentations from UNESCO, TEDEd, Results for Development, and World Vision, and other education leaders.

Lawrence was born in Northern Uganda and currently oversees operations in 140 schools in that region.

The insightful case studies presented by these global organizations created a vibrant virtual discussion around the need for creativity to overcome the complex challenges facing the field of education. Following Lawrence’s presentation, participants debated questions like “How can education organizations better respond to the needs of marginalized groups when entering post-conflict environments?” and “What are the most transferable insights from Educate!’s experience navigating gender issues in Northern Uganda?”

Educate! is proud to contribute to this important dialogue around adapting education innovations for scale to challenging environments. We’re continually improving our approach by building on the successes and insights of others, as well as contributing what we’ve learned to the sector more broadly.
